Co Loa citadel is a unique and perfect military work of the Vietnamese ancient. Co Loa citadel is one of the most attractive destination for tourists for its relics and also the traditional Mi Chau – Trong Thuy. Co Loa citadel is located in Co Loa Commune, Dong Anh District, Hanoi, about 18 km from North of the Hanoi capital. From the center of Hanoi, crossing Chuong Duong bridge and turn to Highway about 15km to the Co Loa.
Co Loa archaeological site is considered as the oldest citadel, with large scale. Its structure is also the most unique building of the ancient Vietnamese citadel. Over the thousand years, Co Loa has become a cultural heritage, a proof of creativity in terms of technical level and culture of the Vietnamese ancient. The remnants such as stone embankment, pottery scattered edge, watery moat, floods complex, mantle, especially the terrain horrible zigzag … all made up architectural and specialized arts in Co Loa.
Co Loa is famous for its festival on January 6 annually with many Co Loa folk games from ancients, so if visitors desire to enjoy the festive atmosphere, this best time to visit is early in the morning. In Co Loa there are many areas of great value for archaeological research, and archaeological remains are almost all traces.
In Inner zone of Co Loa is a rectangular area with a circumference of 1650m. At the corner of Inner Zone, there are 18 other yards and its surrounding is a deep and wide moat. The center of Coloa has a circumference of 6500m, from the south to the east in the direction of Dam Ca, Go Voi in the north and then along the banks of the Yellow River, flowing from southwest to southeast, surrounding Co Loa from northeast to southeast. In the inner city area, people have built some memorial works, namely, An Duong Vuong Temple, Ngu dynasty dioceses and so on…
