Legendary stories of the Lao people told that there are giants who once settled in this area. According to another legend, an ancient king named Khun Cheung – fought a successful war against the enemy. He created a plain of jars to ferment fermentation and contained large quantities of rice wine to commemorate the victory. It is said again, because Xieng Khoang is located in the plateau, there are two distinct seasons, the rainy season. In the dry season, the jungle, the ancients made these huge jars for water storage … Even the material that makes these jars is controversial. Some say that they are made of limestone, others say they are made of beeswax and marble mixed with some special materials in ancient times.

During the sunset, the Plain of Jars flooded in frustration. Local people still refer to this place as a huge graveyard, resting place for thousands of human lives, people who have status in the world have enough money and the right to be buried in the “godlike”.

Currently, visitors are allowed to visit 3 locations around Phonesavanh town: The first site is Ban Ang with about 250 jars, the second site with about 100 jars, and the third site is Sua Village containing about 100 jars (approximately 12, 23 and 28 km from Phonesavanh town). It has been estimated that every year the Plain of Jars has attracted a million tourists.
At present, the Plain of Jars is ranked as the 7th most mysterious world wonders that humans have not been decoded. With what the Lao government and the UNESCO organization are doing, people hope that the entire Plain of Jars will soon be “liberated”, so that visitors can comfortably touch the rough rock that is ambiguous.
