Kampong Thom is the second largest province by area in Cambodia. Kampong Thom consists two parts, which are Eastern part and Western part of National Road 6.
Kampong Thom experiences a tropical climate, which can divide into three main seasons:
From November to March is the cool season (the average temperature is about 20-28 degree C); from March to May is the hot season (the temperature fluctuates between 30 and 35 degree C); and rainy season lasts from May to October (the humidity is about 90%, the temperature is roughly from 23 to 30 degree C).
Kampong Thom is one of the places where there are many historical sites for tourists to visit while traveling to Cambodia.

Prasat Kuhak Nokor

Located in the Prasat village of Andet, Prasat Kuh Nokor Temple is one of the famous temples in Kampong Thom province. Built by the king Suryavarman I between the 10th and 11th centuries, the temple is composed of honeycomb, sandstone, and lotus sculptures. The outside of the temple is 35 meters (east-west) and 25 meters (north-south). Prasat Kuh Nokor Temple also has some excellent statues for tourists to visit.

Under the reign of King Suryavarman I, Prasat Kok Rokar was built in Khleng style to worship Siva. The centerpiece of the temple is conical in shape with an open arch in the east. Around the temple are marble pillars with many different shapes. According to the local people said, in the French colonial period, there were many antiques were brought up hiding in the temple.

Prasat Phum Prasat was built of brick and sandstone in the 8th century. Inside the temple, there are statues of various gods and women, but mainly worships Siva. The pillars of the temple were decorated and carved elaborately. There are inscriptions of Linga and Yoni engraved on the corner of the temple. However, people said that the temple was devastated because it was not maintained and preserved properly.

Prasat Andet Temple

Prasat Andet Temple is a Hirihara shrine under King Jayavarman I. Located on an artificial hill, the temple is 5.3 meters high, 7.5 meters long and 5.5 meters wide. Like many temples in the same period, Prasat Andet was built of honeycomb, brick and sandstone. The bars in the temple are decorated with wreaths and traditional Khmer style. The statues in the temple were taken to the National Museum of Cambodia for preservation.

Sambo Prei Kuh was the capital of the ancient Shan State, built by King Isanavarman I. Temples are one of the interesting destinations in Kampong Thom for visitors to understand more about the history. The architectural style of the temple is different from the Indian art, the temple is built of brick, rolling door of stone, often built separately or grouped together.

Prasat Preah Tee

Prasat Preah Tee Temple is known as “Kampong Thom’s Leaning Tower of Pisa”, where visitors can admire the exquisite and unique carvings in the style of Angkor.

Sambor Prei Kuk (The Lion Temple)

The Lion Temple is located in the historic compound of the ancient Sambor Prei Kuk, built in the 7th century. The building is entirely brick and free of binder. The Lion Temple is home to many major religious activities. At the temple stands the statue of the lion at the top of the stairs, lion sitting with two front legs stand up, two legs lowered, the head is high and the mouth is large.
